Love Unexpected spotlights Virginia’s well-loved small towns and off-the-beaten-path treasures that offer a sense of discovery for travelers.

The Virginia Tourism Corporation and Lomography have announced a new, international photo competition called Love Unexpected, which will award limited-edition, Virginia is for Lovers cameras and four, week-long vacations and airfare to some of Virginia’s coolest small town destinations. The Love Unexpected photo competition is the first time Lomography has partnered with a US tourism office for a special promotion.

Inspired by the nostalgic vibe of the Virginia is for Lovers slogan and the analogue philosophy of Lomography, Love Unexpected spotlights Virginia’s well-loved small towns and off-the-beaten-path treasures that offer a sense of discovery for travelers. Places such as old-school diners, drive-in movie theaters, roadside wonders, music jam venues and craft wineries and breweries found statewide in Virginia’s small towns. The rules of the Love Unexpected competition are easy – photograph things that are loved using a Lomography camera and submit the photos at http://www.Virginia.lomography.com. Starting February 3, Lomography will issue a new photo challenge each month themed around love. Ten monthly winners will win a Virginia is for Lovers camera, and from them four grand prize winners will be chosen to each experience a separate, over-the-top vacation in Virginia. The contest runs through December 2012.

Each prize trip is themed to the spirit and adventure of each vacation including the Roadside Wonders trip, the Wines, Brews and Spirits trip, an Old School Seaside Eats and the Music Jams trip, where the winner will receive an all-access pass to the 2012 Floyd Fest and bear the title of “official event photographer for Virginia is for Lovers.”

Virginia is for Lovers is about love – pure and simple, and has been since its debut in 1969. The slogan is one of the most recognizable tourism slogans in the world and is the longest running state tourism slogan in the country. For a limited time, the old-school Virginia is for Lovers logo which was made popular in the 1970’s will be featured on a special line of apparel available for purchase at http://www.Virginia.org/OldSchool as well as on the Virginia is for Lovers Lomography camera, which are also for sale online.
