The announcement of a new global recruitment initiative by the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) could indicate that the recruitment in the hospitality sector is entering an upswing.
The hotel group has announced this week that it is to recruit for some 400,000 new staff over the next four years. It currently has the hotel industry’s largest development pipeline, with work currently underway on 1,100 new hotels.
IHG’s global talent systems manager, Claire Guberg, said they would be undertaking a comprehensive face-to-face and online recruitment process to make sure they find the best possible staff for the job.
“We need people who are brand aware - what we call 'brand-hearted' - who can deliver our vision to our customers and our team so that our hotels are successful,” she said. “We believe that the best way of getting that level of awareness is to look internally for the key positions that we need around the globe.”
The company already has 4,500 hotels around the world – with more than 666,000 hotel rooms – and is opening up new premises at a rate of one a day somewhere in the world.
The company hosts a biannual Careers Week, which encourages existing employees to go into their internal online recruitment system and create a profile. The Careers Week in September 2011 saw 5,000 people from 89 countries create profiles.
