Schriever Air Force Base, Colo. (PRWEB) February 03, 2012
The 50th Space Wing’s 2nd Space Operations Squadron installed a new software release on the Global Positioning System Ground Segment to support the upcoming launch of a GPS Block IIF satellite.
The Space and Missile Systems Center’s GPS Directorate Sustainment team, located at Peterson Air Force Base, delivered the software updates to 2 SOPS after the successful completion of rigorous testing on the software.
“This is a routine software update that we perform prior to any new satellite launch. This particular update contains satellite specific data required by our ground segment to communicate with the new IIF satellite following launch,” said Lt. Col. Jennifer Grant, 2 SOPS commander.
The next GPS Block IIF satellite is scheduled for launch during the third quarter of this year and will be the third satellite of this type to launch.
