With over 20 years of experience in the restaurant, wine sales and wine education industries, Michael has seen many facets of the wine business, yet has never had the opportunity to work at a winery until now.

Tom Davies, President of V. Sattui Winery, has announced the hiring of Michael Cooperman as Tasting Room and Retail Wine Sales Manager: “With over 20 years of experience in the restaurant, wine sales and wine education industries, Michael has seen many facets of the wine business, yet has never had the opportunity to work at a winery until now. He directly oversees all tasting venues on property and is responsible for the training and ongoing education of the winery sales and retail staff, as well as creating and implementing guest educational experiences such as winery and vineyard tours and seminars.”

A recent transplant to northern California, Michael had been teaching Advanced and Intermediate classes for Grape Experience and Wine & Spirit School, both WSET-approved program providers, in San Francisco and Napa. Prior to moving to California, Michael lived and worked in New Mexico for eight years, where in addition to management and sommelier work in top restaurants in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, he most recently served as the Director of Education and Division Manager of Key Account Development for Southern Wine & Spirits of New Mexico before moving to San Francisco in 2010.

Michael’s industry credentials include the Certified Sommelier (CS) with the Court of Master Sommeliers, the Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) with the Society of Wine Educators, and a Level 4 Diploma in Wine & Spirits (DWS) with the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET). During his restaurant days, Michael was either jointly or solely responsible for attaining Wine Spectator Awards of Excellence for five different restaurants in New York and New Mexico, and was instrumental in helping several others achieve the same during his time with Southern Wine & Spirits.

Michael, his wife, Heidi, and their 15-month-old daughter, Sylvie, now live in St. Helena with Beso and Santo, their four-legged family members. They love the country lifestyle and farm-to-table philosophy of the Napa Valley and look forward to exploring all it has to offer.
