A story about a young, black and white sheepdog named Sam that was destined to protect a flock of sheep in the mountains of Colorado even though they didn’t like him or his father is in the book titled Sam The Sheep Dog written by S.D. Nelson.
Sam was expected to serve as the Head Sheep Dog In Charge. He received a good bit of advice on the job training from his dad. The only problem is that the flock of sheep that he was assigned to protect didn’t like him since they complained about the restrictions on their liberty that his dad enforce on them. This flock includes Rosie, Susan, George and Tim. Despite of this, Sam is determined to gain the sheep’s approval.
This book teaches readers the value of heroism, courage, faith and determination as exemplified by Sam the sheep dog. After the death of his dad, no one believes in him that he can do a successful job protecting the flock of sheep from a pack of wolves ready to attack and devour its prey. Even if the flock of sheep was totally against
Sam protecting them, he was able to prove to them that he is one tough sheepdog ready to bite back once the sheep’s lives are in danger.
Also, this book proves to readers that a dog is indeed man’s best friend. Sam was a good and faithful servant to his master, the good shepherd who believes in him and his father that they can protect the flock of sheep in the mountains despite the insurmountable odds that come their way.
