New book discusses the importance of bringing back policemen on the streets

Author Robert L. Elliott, IV S/P Officer, Retired, presents an honest, real, and thoughtful tribute and dedication to his fellow officers who had sacrificed their lives for the sake of others and the country. The Nation’s Security-Police-Officer On-Duty is an attempt to explain and demonstrate, in the form of photographs, sketches, diagrams and “first-hand knowledge,” of what and who may be considered an “INSTANT-RESPONDER,” as opposite to, or different from, a “First/Second, or Third Responder” in an emergency situation.

Written to open the eyes of the people concerned and spread awareness to every concerned citizen, this book is a much-needed “memorial” to the many S/P Officers “killed in the line of duty,” when the others were “absent.” It is well known that the Security/Police Officers’ sacrifices have never been “properly recognized” because of “bureaucratic indifferences” and the “lack of political will and courage.”

The author further advocates that the Municipal Police Policy-maker must realize that the “Policeman” belongs on the streets and sidewalks of American cities—and not hidden in a fort or headquarters waiting to be called to the “scene of a disturbance,” or worst, a “scene of a vicious and deadly crime.” Once this is “again understood,” the citizens of American cities can then begin to feel “safe and secure” again. The “criminal elements of society” should not be allowed to “control who walks and have access to streets and sidewalks.” The only reason they have “taken-over” is because there are no police officers out there to challenge them.

The government administrator should “re-engage” the returning home of the military veterans as Security/Police Officers by making jobs available to those who want a decent job and decent salary. And this is just the beginning of what needs to be done. This is what this book is all about. Hopefully, the readers will agree to the author’s sentiments and help in making this policy a possibility.
