Innovative Program Connects Young Adults To Parents, Community, And Their Potential

Using feedback from parents and friends expressing their frustration with the lack of available resources for their struggling young adults, we designed the Heron's Gate program.

The THRIVE Center, a comprehensive mental health care provider, is expanding their successful mental health counseling services with the opening of Heron's Gate: Intensive Immersion Program for Transitioning Young Adults.

Heron's Gate provides critical career and personal development solutions for “failure to launch” young adults who desire to transition to independent living.

“Using feedback from parents and friends expressing their frustration with the lack of available resources for their struggling young adults, we designed the Heron's Gate program. This strategic program provides services that enhance the activities of our post-secondary clients who have yet to connect-the-dots from their highly structured academic environments, to their own personal decision making in independent living settings”, said Dr. Rick Silver, Founder, THRIVE Center.

A cohort of young adults forms the core of this nine-month program. Through intensive group and individual activities, this team builds accountability and responsibility among participants and progressively develops their life skill competencies.

The intensive nature of the activities, ensure measurable progress from week-to-week in this newly developed, participant centered hands-on program, by identifying effective management strategies for real life issues.
For some participants, Heron's Gate connects with the current Heron's Nest Independent Living program that provides support for young adults transitioning to a higher level of independence. Heron’s Nest allows the young adults to actively rehearse more advanced skills for independent living.

Since our inception over four years ago, THRIVE’s goals continue to be realized, as we successfully improve the lives of patients ranging from children to mature adults. The innovative Heron’s Gate Program enables us to more effectively reach the young adult struggling to launch into independent living.
