All references in social media text for an identified subject (generic topic, brand, company, individual) are captured and their relationship to subtopics identified. The company Epson has about 40,000 tweets a week that reference them. Of these tweets, there are around 3,000 related to the subtopic ‘inkjet’. Twitter chatter on the generic term, ‘inkjet’, is around 35,000 tweets per week. An Epson outbound social media campaign to the 32,000 twitter difference is an enormous marketing touch point opportunity. In addition, those 32,000 touch points have a social reach of over 15 million twitter accounts.

The medical condition, diabetes, has a weekly twitter chatter volume of over 110,000. Of these, over 10,000 relate to the subtopic ‘type 2’, 6,800 relate to the subtopic, ‘chocolate’, and 4,300 relate to the subtopic, ‘weight’. The social reach of an outbound message has the potential of 6 to 11 million touch points. An outbound twitter campaign composed of a tweet with a value sound bite and a webpage URL could drive a diabetes product, supplies, and/or services business.

In the current GOP race there were around 282,000 tweets last week related to Mitt Romney and 170,000 related to Newt Gingrich. Romney had about 2,000 referencing “jobs” and Gingrich had about 1,200. Either candidate could do an outbound campaign to the ‘jobs’ related tweeters of the opposition. The social reach marketing touch point opportunity is amazing, with Romney at 1.13 billion and Gingrich at 635 million.
