APBA Partners with Crown to Increase Membership and Awareness of Power Boat Racing

With 109 years under its belt, the American Power Boat Association (APBA) has set out to make history by looking toward its future. Today, in partnership with digital marketing agency Crown, the APBA announced significant milestones in its extensive 3-year digital transformation program: the launch of its new website and social community. Home to its 3,300+ membership, the new APBA-racing.com houses the Association’s bustling new social community and all forthcoming awareness efforts. The new site and “APBA Social” are now available to the public at http://www.APBA-racing.com.

APBA member and Crown CEO, Richard Hearn, forged the partnership between the Association and his company in a joint effort to revive its previously shrinking numbers through the same digital tactics that have resulted in increased profitability and customer engagement for Crown’s enterprise clients. Crown applied a four-pronged approach to the APBA’s digital transformation: a new website, the introduction of the “APBA Social” community, ongoing email marketing to its database and beyond, and design and content overhauls of its former print magazine Propeller, which it simultaneously converted to a digital format.

”The APBA and its membership are extremely happy with the huge strides taken in such a short time,” said APBA Executive Director Dan Wiener. “We have seen nothing but dedication and tireless efforts from Richard and his team. They truly embrace everything that the APBA stands for. With the rich history of the APBA and the technical/marketing savvy of Crown, we are looking forward to working together to grow the sport of powerboat racing over the coming years.”

The APBA’s three-year goal is to grow its membership to 5,000 members by 2015 (which represents a 60% increase). Its revamped online presence, growing social activity, and ongoing email marketing initiatives will assist the Association in accomplishing this through a series of sub-goals: unifying the fragmented membership base, increasing transparency to members, automating previously manual processes, providing added value to members, improving the overall visitor experience, making the sport more attractive to fans, and growing enthusiasm and attention toward the sport.

“Crown has helped many companies and groups embrace digital technologies to increase customer engagement and set the foundation for growth,” said Richard Hearn. “As a racer myself, I have a personal interest in seeing the long-term success of this Association, and am pleased that Crown is able to partner with the APBA to grow this sport together.”

The current APBA member base has been a key driving force behind the direction of the “new” Association, and has remained active in its transformation ever since Crown unveiled the program in October 2011. Since then, Crown has already been able to help the APBA attract 900+ power boating enthusiasts (members, fans, vendors, and others) to the APBA Social Community. A cursory visit to the community reveals an archive of feedback from and communications to this vocal member base, and confirms that the program’s transparent means and end are aligned.
