We’ve seen a large amount of interest from companies that currently have pills and tablets, but want a liquid form of their formulas.

Matsun Nutrition, a liquid contract manufacturer, has had a large influx of companies trying to figure out how to take their top selling formulations and put them into a liquid. Matsun Nutrition has been working with liquid vitamin formulations since 1991.

You probably wouldn’t think of the vitamin supplement market as a sector particularly driven by trends, but vitamin companies are rushing to meet consumer demand by releasing liquid versions of supplements which are typically taken as a pill or a powder.

In the joint health market alone, sales of liquids have grown to $100m in the last three years. The overall vitamin market is worth over $7 billion each year, with over 50% of Americans taking some form of supplement.

The liquid supplement market is already well established in Asia and South America, but the American market is increasingly following the trend. “The biggest growth opportunity is going to be in liquid forms,” says industry expert Julian Mellentin.

The popularity of liquid vitamin supplements is growing for different reasons with different groups of consumers. The over-60s often find pills difficult to swallow, especially multi-vitamins which can be very large. At the same time, younger consumers want the convenience and taste benefit of being able to add their supplements to smoothies or shakes more easily than powder forms allow.

Evidence of the shift is borne out by some of the biggest producers of vitamins and supplements. “We’ve seen a large amount of interest from companies that currently have pills and tablets, but want a liquid form of their formulas,” said Brandon Siggard, CEO of Matsun Nutrition, a vitamin manufacturer in Murrieta, CA with 20 years’ experience in manufacturing liquid vitamin supplements for other businesses. “32oz ready-to-drink formulas are by far our biggest growth area – it seems that consumers are realizing that liquids are easier to add to smoothies, or just more convenient to drink straight rather than mixing up a powder.”

Matsun Nutrition manufactures in house/stock private label vitamins and supplements under a structured, NSF cGMP-certified manufacturing process and facility, using only tested and quality raw materials.
