To celebrate the release of Kurt Weichert’s novel SportsFan Chronicles, Chicago marketing company OneIMS has organized a free giveaway for new members of the novel’s Facebook fanbase. Every week, one new Facebook fan will win an autographed copy of SportsFan Chronicles and, each month, one lucky fan will receive a free Nook e-reader. Prizes will be awarded for the next several months.
The book, SportsFan Chronicles, follows Kurt, the author’s fictional counterpart Brian, and an amalgam of Kurt’s friends, through a series of Animal House-level exploits. The pair eventually wins the lottery and stand poised to live their lifelong dream of buying a football team, assuming they can convince their awful ex-boss to join them. The combination of realism and wish fulfillment has understandably garnered quite the fanbase since SportsFan Chronicles’ release.
“Kurt wanted to acknowledge how vital his readers have been to the success of SportsFan Chronicles,” says Solomon Thimothy, president of OneIMS. “We were happy that we could help him accomplish this.”
OneIMS had already integrated a number of social media widgets on the SportsFan Chronicles website, but establishing the contest on Facebook allowed for a more direct means of reaching new readers. Advertisements introduce the book to a targeted group of readers and sports fans on Facebook, while promoting the contest to potential new fans of the series. Fans who “like” SportsFan Chronicles through Facebook will automatically be entered into the contest. In the interest of keeping communication as direct as possible, Weichert mails the autographed books and Nook prizes directly to contest winners.
In addition to promotions like the SportsFan Chronicles contest for adult fiction novels, OneIMS utilizes polls, image galleries, and other features to make websites and Facebook campaigns as interactive as possible. This allows writers and other artists to connect to their fans through intuitive web design and social media integration.
