London-based Bodycraft Weight Loss has announced exciting expansion for 2012, with 2 new clinics and 2 new hospitals now available to meet increasing demand for gastric band, bypass and sleeve surgery in the UK. London-based Bodycraft says that it is seeing 20% more interest in their services this year already.

We are continually expanding our offering. As well as additional clinics and hospitals, we are also expanding our team with additional dietitians, nurses and counsellors as well as surgeons.

Bodycraft Weight Loss provides bariatric surgery for overweight and obese patients who have chosen surgical intervention such as the gastric band or bypass to take control of their diets and weight. Bodycraft’s team of bariatric surgeons, counsellors, nurses and dietitians specialise in providing weight loss surgery and supporting patients afterwards with comprehensive aftercare and dietary support to ensure that they succeed in healthy weight loss.

A spokesperson for the company said “The Company was established in 2010 and has grown very quickly due to the increasing demand for weight loss surgery in the UK. For 2012, we are already seeing more interest in bariatric surgery from patients who realise that they need to take control of their weight. It’s not just about looking slim, most of our patients find that their health and quality of life is suffering from carrying too much weight and realise that if they’ve struggled with diet and exercise, they need to take drastic action to address their weight. Bariatric surgery is seen as the final solution.”

“We have therefore introduced 2 new clinics in London, one based in prestigious Harley Street offices and another based in Fitzroy Square. These Central London locations are both easily accessible, making that first step – having a weight loss consultation with our expert team – easier for our patients. A weight loss consultation is an opportunity for patients to meet confidentially with a top Bariatric Surgeons to discuss their weight and explore whether surgery, such as a gastric band or bypass, is the right option for them.”

“In addition, we are now operating out of 2 additional hospitals – BMI Weymouth Street and London Independent. Again, this gives our patients much more choice about when and where to have their surgery. We also continue to offer consultations and surgery from Parkside Hospital in Wimbledon.”

All statistics seem to point to a worsening of the UK obesity epidemic and as the NHS struggles to cope, only taking the most extreme cases subject to strict criteria, it seems that the private sector will have a bigger role to play in helping those overweight and obese patients who wish to take action in the form of surgery.

The UK is now the fattest nation in Europe. According to official statistics, over 60% of UK adults are now considered overweight. 24% of women and 22% of men are actually classified as obese, meaning that their Body Mass Index is over 30. And yet the obesity crisis, which already costs the NHS at least £500m per year and accounts for 30,000 premature deaths shows no signs of slowing. Experts predict that if the current rate of growth continues, three-quarters of the population could suffer the ill effects of excess weight within 10 to 15 years.

It may be that further expansion is on the cards?

Bodycraft’s spokesman responded: “We are continually expanding our offering. As well as additional clinics and hospitals, we are also expanding our team with additional dietitians, nurses and counsellors as well as surgeons. Although we are currently based in London and Surrey, we welcome patients from all over the UK and even overseas, due to the excellent reputation of our Bariatric Surgeons.”

Bodycraft’s Weight Loss team offer a full range of weight loss surgery procedures, including the gastric band, bypass and sleeve, as well as the non-surgical gastric balloon. Patients are supported before, during and after surgery by professional and dedicated dietitians, nurses and counsellors to ensure they get the best results from surgery. The support team includes Channel 4's The Food Hospital's Lucy Jones as weight loss Dietitian.
