About the Author
Born in the Netherlands but schooled in Cape Town, Maryke Middelmann was a ‘townie’ until she moved to the family protea farm with her husband and sons in the 1970s. Serving the South African protea industry, first as part time Secretary and eventually as full-time Executive Chairman, she was also elected Chairman of the International Protea Association. She retired from both these positions in 2006. The author has travelled to many protea producing countries around the world. She was also a committee member of Fynbos Forum. She is still actively involved in her husband’s dried flower export business.
