1492 Capital Management, as investment adviser, today announced that it has launched a no-load family of mutual funds, the 1492 Funds, consisting of the 1492 Small Cap Growth fund and the 1492 Small Cap Value fund. The funds trade under the NASDAQ symbols of FNTGX and FNTVX, respectively.

“We're really excited about launching these products. These are institutional-style products with low minimum initial investment requirements that should appeal to many audiences,” said Joseph Frohna, Principal of and portfolio manager at 1492 Capital Management, LLC. “We will be using our time-tested thematic approach to managing these funds as we've been doing for the majority of our investment careers,” he continued. “Investors and advisers have been asking us for years for these products and we believe it’s a great time to be coming to market with these funds,” added Tim Stracka, Principal and Director of Institutional Sales.

Investments in the Small Cap Growth Fund are selected using a bottom-up fundamental process in conjunction with theme-based investing. Theme-based investing is used to emphasize industries and/or sectors of the economy that are believed to have better growth prospects than others. Once a theme is identified and additional fundamental analysis is employed, the Adviser attempts to find individual stocks that will benefit from the theme.

Investments in the Small Cap Value Fund are the result of a bottom-up thematic approach focusing on dividend paying small-cap companies with strong fundamentals and management teams. Investments in the fund are selected by applying fundamental research including our proprietary valuation process referred to as “triangulation,” which incorporates financial criteria and ratios from three sources: the balance sheet; income statement; and cash flow statement.

The 1492 Small Cap Growth and Small Cap Value Funds are now available for new investments. The minimum initial investment for each fund is $10,000 with subsequent minimums of $250. The funds’ management fee is 1.00% with overall net expenses capped at 1.10% (1).
