North Texas Fertility (NTF), an infertility program based in the Dallas area, is launching their first annual IVF Cycle Donation in honor of National Infertility Awareness Week (NIAW - April 22-28). This year’s theme, “We’re In This Together” will emphasize increasing public education and awareness regarding the emotional impact of infertility.
“Infertility is a subject often not openly discussed. We want couples experiencing difficulties conceiving to realize that they are not alone in their struggles. In fact, about 10 percent of the population is unable to conceive naturally,” said Sunday Pirkle, Ph.D., CEO and Scientific Director of North Texas Fertility. Sharing their infertility diagnosis with someone close to them is also difficult, with 61 percent of couples concealing their infertility diagnosis from friends and family.* “With this cycle donation, we are not only trying to raise awareness, but to also let people experiencing infertility in our community know that we are in this together,” said Pirkle.
As part of their effort to increase infertility awareness, North Texas Fertility is offering one free in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment. To be considered for the free cycle, couples will complete an application and write a short essay that describes their struggle to conceive.
Registration begins February 14th and will close March 31st. Staff from NTF will evaluate the applications and select a recipient for the IVF Cycle Donation. The names of the couple selected for the IVF Cycle Donation will be announced on April 27nd, at the end of National Infertility Awareness Week.

National Infertility Awareness Week® (NIAW), a movement founded by RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association, raises awareness about the disease of infertility and encourages the public to take charge of their reproductive health. Each year the infertility community comes together for one week to focus on ensuring that people trying to conceive know the guidelines for seeing a specialist when they are trying to conceive; enhancing public understanding that infertility is a disease that needs and deserves attention; and educating legislators about the disease of infertility and how it impacts people in their state. In 2010 NIAW became a federally recognized health observance by the Department of Health and Human Services. For more information, visit http://www.resolve.org/takecharge.
