In the U.S., Hyundai has introduced a new two-door sport coupe variant to the award winning Elantra line-up at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. The 2013 Elantra Coupe marks the continuing evolution of Hyundai’s “Fluidic Sculpture” design theme with sporty design language, while assuming a compact coupe segment leadership position with an eco-efficient powertrain, generous convenience features, exceptional roominess and abundant safety features.

Designed at Hyundai's North American Design Center in Irvine, California the Elantra Coupe takes Hyundai’s dynamic “Fluidic Sculpture” design principles to the next level, replicating the interaction of wind with rigid surfaces to create a perception of fluid in motion.
Hyundai’s signature hexagonal front fascia opening and jewelled swept-back headlights give Elantra Coupe a lean, aggressive demeanor. Fog lights and available side mirror repeater lamps complement the view from the front.
From the side, Elantra Coupe conveys a wedge-like silhouette with deeply sculpted surfaces. Five-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels with dark spoke inserts add a dynamic presence to the SE model, while A- and C-pillar angles frame a sharply tapered greenhouse, further accentuating the wedge profile. Just below the belt line, a prominent character line carries from the door through to the rear boot while wheel arch creases give a subtle flared appearance around front and rear wheels, for a wide and aggressive presence. A beveled rocker panel rounds out the lean and muscular stance.
At the rear, a blacked-out diffuser valance contrasts with dual chrome-tipped exhaust tips, with boot lid incorporates a lip spoiler design element featuring in the SE model.
These sculpted surfaces serve to create a highly aerodynamic body. The drag coefficient for the Elantra Coupe is an exceptionally low 0.28 Cd, resulting in minimal cabin noise intrusion and optimal fuel economy.
The Elantra is fitted with Hyundai’s all-new 1.8L Nu petrol engine. Made from all-aluminium, it’s light, powerful and delivers a power output of 110kW @ 6500 rpm, and torque of 178Nm @ 4700 rpm. Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT) camshafts and hydraulic engine mounts for optimum offer power, efficiency, and refinement provide a 30 percent reduction in hydrocarbon emissions. The Nu engine also features a maintenance-free silent timing chain system to enhance durability and improve Noise Vibration and Harshness (NVH).
As one of an elite group of auto manufacturers who design and manufacture their own transmissions, Hyundai mated the Elantra’s 1.8-litre engine to a six-speed manual or optional six-speed automatic transmission. This new breed of in-house transmissions offer slick, smooth gear transitions and to further enhance the economy of the driveline.
The Elantra Coupe delivers class-leading safety features and is equipped with the following features across the entire range: Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Electronics Stability Control (ESC) incorporating Traction Control System (TCS), six airbags including front side (thorax) and side curtain airbags. Other standard safety features include four- channel Anti-skid Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), three-point retractable seatbelts for all occupants with pretensioners and load limiters on the front seat belts. Central door locking, engine immobiliser and keyless entry with alarm are also standard on all models.
There are no plans to introduce the Hyundai Elantra Coupe into the Australian market.
