Software Release Offers New Technologies for Physical Test Data and CAE Durability Analysis

nCode, the leading brand of durability, test and analysis products offered by HBM, introduces significant new technologies for both physical test and CAE durability at version 8 release of its software suite. nCode 8 includes nCode GlyphWorks®, a graphical test data processing software and nCode DesignLife™, a leading solution for CAE fatigue analysis applications. Version 8 of nCode Automation™, a scalable environment for engineering test data storage, analysis and reporting is also now available.

“We've seen energy costs and environmental pressures drive changes in many industries, especially in the automotive sector," stated Jon Aldred, Director of Product Management at HBM-nCode. “Increasing horsepower is being extracted from ever smaller engines, leading to a significant increase in operating temperatures in the combustion chamber and higher exhaust temperatures. This is pushing material properties to the extreme. Vehicle weight is being reduced by the use of lightweight materials and composites in more applications. This produces challenges in operating strength and manufacturing. We’re pleased to announce that nCode 8 provides new capabilities to help address these challenges for both physical test and CAE simulation.”

Thermo-mechanical fatigue (TMF) is introduced with methods to estimate product life under combined cycling of high temperatures and mechanical loads. Creep damage can be calculated from both measured data and from finite element simulations. Methods to predict the fatigue of composite materials, such as short fibre polymers, commonly used for automotive components, are also now available. In addition, methods for assessing the durability of adhesive bonds in lightweight vehicle structures have been introduced. nCode 8 provides cost-effective tools that can be used to solve real-world design problems. Customers using nCode CDS™, a token based licensing system for the nCode desktop products, will automatically get access to the full range of new technologies.

nCode GlyphWorks 8 provides many enhancements to maximize the amount of information extracted from measured data, including vehicle GPS data. Physical regions can be identified on displayed maps and data extracted whenever a vehicle passes through a region. This is especially useful for understanding the relative severity and damage contribution of various proving ground surfaces and extracting sections for correlation to actual usage data from customer vehicles. Other new features in GlyphWorks include an order tracking filter to better understand vibration characteristics of rotating machinery such as electric motors or generators.

nCode Automation 8 has also been extended to do more with large amounts of “real world” data generated by fleets of engineering test vehicles or SCADA data from a wind farm for example. Scheduled reports can be regularly run on collected data, and now includes triggers based on key performance indicators calculated from the data such as when an operating temperature or vibration level is outside the statistical norm. Emails are then automatically sent, notifying the appropriate individuals of the information on which a decision can be based. nCode Automation provides an off-the-shelf software to explore and monitor a wide range of engineering data.
