Georgia Center for Nonprofits Joins Together with Southwest Airlines to Spread 'Luv' to Georgia Nonprofits

The launch of LUV Grants for Good makes available $150,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations from across the State of Georgia.

We thank Southwest for offering the best kind of gift to our state -- much-needed resources for nonprofits and expanded support for our communities.

This week, Georgia Center for Nonprofits is thrilled to announce a new program with Southwest Airlines to support our state's nonprofits.

Continuing its 40-year mission to serve in its communities, Southwest has just announced the launch of LUV Grants for Good, making available $150,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations from across the State of Georgia. The online essay and video contest, now live at http://www.southwest.com/luvgrants, will award a total of $150,000 in LUV Grants for Good to six Georgia 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. The deadline to enter is Feb. 22, 2012.

GCN President & CEO Karen Beavor joined the celebration in a LUV-themed ceremony on Monday featuring congratulations from Georgia Governor Nathan Deal, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, and a cadre of Southwest customers and employees.

“We welcome Southwest Airlines to Georgia and thank them for offering the best kind of gift to our state," said Beavor, adding that "this is the kind of exciting relationship between the corporate and nonprofit sectors that brings much-needed resources and expanded support for our communities."

The public will have an opportunity to vote and select the winning six organizations from a pool of finalists that produce videos on how they would use money to show love to the communities they serve. Those finalists will have been selected from essays submitted online and judged by the Georgia Center for Nonprofits and Southwest Airlines.

In accepting the gift on behalf of all Georgians, Governor Deal said, “Southwest Airlines has established itself as a first-rate corporate citizen in our State by creating LUV Grants for Good to celebrate their arrival in our community. This program will benefit the people of Georgia, who welcome Southwest, their good works, and the wonderful opportunities they bring to our great State.”
