We are seeing an increase in retired individuals walking through our doors, taking more debt with them into retirement. It’s a disturbing trend.
Bridgewater, Nova Scotia (PRWEB) February 14, 2012
Haley & Associates, Inc., today announced Mary Ann Marriott has been selected to join a panel of experts on a popular Retirement Planning Seminar Series for Canadian government employees, hosted by Innes MacIntyre & Associates, a local Nova Scotia consulting firm specializing in life and retirement planning events.
The seminars have become a popular series of educational events for government workers. In 2010, a special Financial Counseling module was added to the series curriculum on a trial basis. As a result of overwhelmingly positive feedback, the module was incorporated into the majority of seminar sessions throughout 2011 and will be included in 2012 events.
Haley & Associates’ Marriott will be part of the 2012 sessions delivering advice and counsel on how workers approaching retirement should pay close attention to and manage their monthly cash flow and credit use. “We are seeing an increase in retired individuals walking through our doors, taking more debt with them into retirement. It’s a disturbing trend,” said Marriott.
When asked why she feels their one-hour presentation has garnered so much interest, Marriott replies, “Credit is such a major part of a household budget these days and education around proper use is scarce. Individuals want good, sound advice they can make use of and we provide that advice during these sessions.”
Marriott, who has more than a decade of experience in Insolvency, is an Accredited Financial Counselor, having obtained her designation from the Institute for Personal Finance. In addition, she holds a certificate in Insolvency Administration and is registered with Industry Canada as a Qualified Insolvency Counselor. She has also helped to develop a financial counseling company designed to help individuals learn money management skills, and has contributed to several books and publications, including “Chasing Your Losses" and “Masters of Networking.”
With offices in Halifax, Tantallon, Chester, Bridgewater, Liverpool, Shelburne, Barrington Passage, and Yarmouth, which opened earlier this year, Haley & Associates has more than 40 years combined experience as bankruptcy trustees. The firm is also a sponsor of Personal Bankruptcy Canada, Inc., a free website that provides consumers with general debt and bankruptcy resources, including access to highly qualified bankruptcy trustees across the Canadian provinces and valuable education information on bankruptcy and debt management.
