Social Solutions, the leading provider of performance management software for human and social services, today announced that it has brought on Patrick Lester, former senior vice president for Public Policy at the Alliance for Children and Families and United Neighborhood Centers of America, to serve as Vice President for Social Impact.
In this new position, Lester will manage all public policy and thought leadership efforts aimed at raising the overall awareness of the importance of performance management for the human services sector.
“Patrick brings a deep level of expertise in the human services sector and will help organizations understand the true value of performance management,” said Steve Butz, executive chairman and founder, Social Solutions. “The public sector has shown an increased interest in developing and running programs that are evidenced-based and embedded with the concept of performance management. Patrick will play a key role in advocating and educating them on Social Solutions and the significance of our software.”

In his role at the Alliance for Children and Families and United Neighborhood Centers of America, Lester managed these organizations’ joint legislative efforts, as well as provided thought leadership and education initiatives surrounding the Department of Education’s Promise Neighborhoods efforts. Lester is also a well-known blogger for the Alliance, contributing to the Building Neighborhoods and the Washington Insider blogs.
“I am very excited to help Social Solutions showcase the importance of performance management for the human services sector,” said Lester. “Many organizations want to improve their performance but are often lacking the right tools, training and knowledge to actually do it. I hope to bring a level of education to the marketplace that will allow all human services organizations to realize their performance management goals.”

Prior to the Alliance, Lester served as director of public policy for United Way of America, where he led Congressional, federal executive branch and media outreach. In this role, he focused on issues pertaining to national charity law and charitable tax incentives, the federal budget and children’s health.
Lester also served as senior public policy analyst at the Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations, as well as the legislative director for the Coalition on Human Needs. In addition, he once served on the staff of the Domestic Policy Council at the White House, as well as was a legislative analyst for the Maryland General Assembly.
