Public and private-sector CIOs are no longer merely learning how Cloud can be leveraged to their organization’s benefit, but are viewing Cloud as a strategic weapon, often to be deployed as a first-option when considering new investment initiatives.

The pace of Cloud adoption is rapidly accelerating, across the entire Cloud IT stack – including infrastructure, platform services, applications, and across a variety of business process and management services. Public and private-sector CIOs are no longer merely learning how Cloud can be leveraged to their organization’s benefit, but are now increasingly viewing Cloud as a strategic weapon, often to be deployed as a first-option when considering new investment initiatives. As one CIO recently shared with Saugatuck, “our end users are demanding it – and the flexibility and speed that the Cloud provides. Further, more and more of our solution providers are now ONLY providing Cloud solutions. So this is becoming less about an IT decision, and more about a market shift and growing end-user demand.”
In support of these issues, Saugatuck Technology Founder and CEO Bill McNee will lead a panel of senior government and public sector executives at this year’s SIIA Cloud/Gov conference, to be held February 16, 2012 at the Westin Washington, DC. Joining Mr. McNee in the late morning session, entitled “State and Local Governments Embrace the Cloud,” are Garrison Gladfelter Jr., Director of Prevention, Bureau of Drug & Alcohol Programs, PA Department of Health and Mike Goodrich, Director, Administration, Arlington Economic Development.
These public sector leaders will brief the audience on new developments related to Cloud in their respective organizations. Key topics to be explored with the panel include how best to plan for, contract and secure Cloud solutions in the government; how and when to transition Government users to new Cloud / SaaS solutions; where are the low-hanging fruit around which investments will be made 2012-2013; and how should vendors and services providers work with state and local governments to support new Cloud-based initiatives.
“This conference provides a fantastic opportunity for government IT decision makers and users, as well as software, hardware and services providers to deeply understand the real-world Cloud strategies being implemented within federal, state and local government – as well as to learn from and benchmark against peer organizations,” stated McNee.
