Ultrasound remains one of the most essential imaging technologies in ophthalmology, offering both qualitative and quantitative analysis.
Adelaide, South Australia (PRWEB) February 15, 2012
The educational ultrasound course, which is open to all ophthalmologists attending the WOC, will cover the fundamentals of ophthalmic ultrasound, illustrate its technical principles and address the evolution of ultrasound to high-resolution, real-time imaging.
Keynote speaker Andrzej Dmitriew, MD, a leading ophthalmologist and experienced Eye Cubed™ user from Poznan University of Medical Sciences, Poland, will address participants regarding the use of high-resolution B-Scan imaging for the posterior segment. In particular, Dr. Dmitriew will demonstrate how the industry’s only real-time B-Scan offers a detailed view of changes in the vitreous cavity and retina. He will also highlight the benefits of UBM (ultrasound biomicroscopy) for evaluation of the anterior segment in IOL sizing and in the diagnosis of glaucoma, and will explain how immersion biometry enables the improvement of refractive outcomes.
Course participants will also benefit from hands-on clinical sessions with the Company’s leading Eye Cubed™ diagnostic ultrasound technology, helping consolidate the theoretical principles presented.
According to US-based Clinical Applications Specialist at Ellex, Nancy London: “Ultrasound remains one of the most essential imaging technologies in ophthalmology, offering both qualitative and quantitative analysis. Despite the introduction of many new ocular imaging techniques over the past 10 years, ultrasound is the only imaging technique which can be performed in the presence of opaque as well as clear media – making it a fundamental tool for use in ophthalmology.”
The Eye Cubed™ is one of the Company’s best-selling products, with thousands of systems installed worldwide. Since entering the ophthalmic ultrasound market in 2006 through a partnership with ultrasound pioneers Innovative Imaging Inc., Ellex has expanded upon the Eye Cubed’s strong market presence in North America to include Europe and Asia.
As part of the Company’s efforts to provide continuing education support, Ellex hosts a number of clinical ultrasound applications training initiatives under the expert guidance of trained ecographers, with several courses planned during 2012.
