I fully expect that the recent trends in allocations will continue out of hedge funds and into managed futures because it offers the diversification, liquidity and unique capacity to perform in times of equity crisis. -says Reavis
Miami, Florida (PRWEB) February 16, 2012
Tom Reavis presented at the Hedge Fund Associations Symposium on Effective Hedge Fund Strategies held in Miami on January 31. Reavis addressed which hedging strategies are outperforming their peers, why they are outperforming and where he sees returns being generated in 2012. (http://www.wwfsystems.com).
Reavis said, “I fully expect that the recent trends in allocations will continue out of hedge funds and into managed futures because it offers the diversification, liquidity and unique capacity to perform in times of equity crisis. ETFs can not in any way offer the portfolio benefits that managed futures offer. He pointed out that ETFs historically have done poorly in following the underlying commodities, generated higher costs and have a substantially higher tax liability.”
Reavis suggested that outperformace in Commodity Trading Advisors (“CTAs”) is best found in emerging CTAs because their smaller size allows them to be nimble and to diversify into more markets than larger, established CTAs. Further, hedge funds suffered along with stocks in the 2008 decline with the Hedge Fund index declining 21% in 2008. “Hedge funds have found out that they really can’t hedge against an equity crisis by over investing in illiquid assets like private equity and they are now looking to managed futures to deliver the liquidity and inverse correlation to equities in times of crisis."
