Jewelry Television buyers, hosts return from Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, discuss new styles and trends

We’re looking forward to bringing these spectacular new findings to gemstone enthusiasts everywhere.

The gemstone buyers at Jewelry Television® (JTV), the world’s largest broadcast retailer of fine jewelry and loose gemstones, recently returned from Tucson, Ariz. after attending the nation’s largest gem, mineral and jewelry showcase. The event - made up of more than 40 individual jewelry, gem and mineral shows - takes place in Tucson during the first two weeks of February each year.

According to Jay Boyle, graduate gemologist and senior gemstone buyer at Jewelry Television, the buyers are able to work directly with the gemstone vendors at the show to purchase the very latest in gemstone discoveries as well as new trends, color palettes, shapes and cuts.

“The Tucson gem shows are always highly anticipated because you never know what treasures will be on display,” he said. “One exciting find from this year’s shows was Hematita Brazilian alexandrite, a 100 percent color change gemstone that hasn’t been plentiful in years.”

Another highlight of the Tucson gem shows was the amount of iolite on display. Named for the Greek word for violet, iolite has been called water-sapphire and varies in shades from deep blue to pale purple. JTV buyers were able to deal directly with vendors at the shows to make this much sought after gem and many others available to customers.

“We are proud to bring our customers incredible selections for the best value,” said Boyle. “We come to Tucson for the value and rarity of the gemstones and this year’s show exceeded our expectations. We’re looking forward to bringing these spectacular new findings to gemstone enthusiasts everywhere.”
