Hawkeye Sow Centers (HSC) has been made aware of an undercover video obtained at its location near Leland, Iowa, and edited for distribution. HSC does not condone any type of willful animal abuse and has a zero tolerance for all employees. HSC believes actions depicted in the video represent normally accepted production practices but also recognizes the need to further investigate.
“HSC’s number one priority is to ensure the health and welfare of the livestock in our care,” said Pat Joyce, CEO of Hawkeye Sow Centers. “Every employee receives extensive training and signs a commitment to immediately report to management any willful abuse of animals. All facilities are also routinely audited for compliance, and we have activated an immediate third party audit of the facility.”
“HSC supports ongoing research to determine best animal welfare practices,” said Joyce. “HSC respects and trusts the expertise of farmers to provide the best care for their animals.”
Hawkeye Sow Centers is a farrowing production operation owned by 36 family farmers located in northern Iowa and southern Minnesota.
