“At Au Pair Care, your children’s safety is our top priority," said Heidi Woehl, vice president of Au Pair Care. “We are investing more in our au pair training programs and continuing safety education so our au pairs will be safer childcare providers."

Au Pair Care, the leading au pair agency that provides affordable live-in child care services, today announced its first annual National Safety Month for all international au pairs. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 20 million U.S. children and adolescents suffer preventable injuries annually.

In an effort to reduce the number of preventable injuries among children, Au Pair Care recently announced its new Safety Care™ training program, an enhancement that provides all au pairs with CPR and First Aid certification training by the American Heart Association, and focuses on a rigorous curriculum dedicated to providing au pairs with practical safety skills. In addition, during National Safety Month, Au Pair Care’s au pairs will participate in a variety of workshops across the country with local hospitals, police departments, fire departments, and local safety advocates regarding ongoing child safety education.

Au Pair Care’s National Safety Month events will be held during the month of March 2012 in 175 communities across the country. The locally-planned events will support Au Pair Care’s Safety Care initiative, which provides child, driving and household safety best practices from the National Safety Council, in addition to CPR and First Aid training by the American Heart Association.

“At Au Pair Care, your children’s safety is our top priority," said Heidi Woehl, vice president of Au Pair Care. “That’s why we are investing more in our au pair training programs and continuing safety education so our au pairs will be safer childcare providers.”

A sampling of Au Pair Care National Safety Month workshops across the country include:

  •      In Bucks County, PA, au pairs will participate in a “Safe Kids” presentation on home and playground safety from the trauma prevention coordinator at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
  •      In Jacksonville, FL, au pairs will meet with a local physician’s assistant who will present the most common household accidents and tips for child-proofing a home.
  •      In Kansas City, KS, au pairs will meet with members of the local police station to discuss topics related to CPR training and the importance of 911.
  •      In Albany, NY, au pairs will meet with a local CPR trainer who will discuss topics related to CPR and First Aid training.
  •      In Chicago, IL, au pairs will participate in a workshop hosted by the local poison control office on food and home safety.
  •      In Los Angeles, CA, au pairs will meet with their local fire department and review fire safety guidelines and how to prevent a fire in the home.

Au Pair Care matches American families with international au pairs and offers two main program options to fit each family’s specific needs. The Standard One-Year Program provides dedicated child care and cultural exchange for one year. Au pairs provide up to 45 hours of child care per week chosen by the host family, not to exceed 10 hours per day. For families who are expecting or have a child under 12 months old, Au Pair Care offers the Infant Specialized Program, a longer training program focusing on infant sign language, baby massage techniques, games to stimulate infant mental development, and American parenting techniques. In addition, host families and au pairs who want to extend the au pair’s stay use the Extension Program, which provides up to two years of continuing child care. Families can extend with their au pair for an additional six, nine or 12 months.
