Author Tina A. Morgan shares a delightful story that will charm and captivate young readers.

Reading opens up a whole new world fueled by imagination and often gives birth to creativity. Hoping to inculcate this love of reading in children, author Auntie M (Tina A. Morgan) regales young readers with the engaging tale of The Sophisticated Slug.

Ever since the time of his birth, Sammy’s life has been a constant battle to stay alive. There were around 50 of them born into a slimy slug family but with no parents in sight to guard and protect them. Such is the way of a wild banana slug living in a redwood forest just outside of the little northern Californian coastal town of Gualala. The moment he escaped from his egg, Sammy hurried off to hide under a leaf and watched as a shrew came up and ate many of his helpless family. He knew then that life would be a continuous struggle for survival.

When it was safe, Sammy went away from his birth place, traveling for days, tasting everything in his path and delighting in his new discoveries. His life was one big adventure in cleaning up the forest floor, yet he often wondered if there was something else he was meant to do. Will he find a greater purpose for his life or would he meet a tragic end in the stomach of one hungry animal?

With adorable illustrations and a fun plot, The Sophisticated Slug teaches readers to believe in themselves even in the face of danger, to never give up even when the odds are stacked against them. The author also emphasizes the need to show respect through kindness, even if people are all very different from each other. These are life lessons that Sammy tries to live every day, and which Auntie M hopes that children will also emulate.

The Sophisticated Slug will be featured at the 2012 Bologna Children’s Book Fair Book Exhibit in Bologna, Italy, on March 19-22, 2012.

About the Author

Ms. Morgan is a successful business woman and an accomplished entrepreneur who enjoys writing children books, poetry, short stories and young adult novels for the reading pleasure of her family, friends and others. Writing has always been her hobby. Since she retired from the Beauty Industry in late 2009, she began attending classes in a writing program at Stanford University to assist in honing her talent. In this academic environment, The “Auntie M” children’s book series was born. Ms. Morgan moved to North Carolina to get back to her roots in April of 2011 from northern California, and currently resides in a country estate home located in Monroe. Here, she is surrounded by all kinds of wild forest critters which she uses as characters in her writing, clearly a benefit of living outside the city limits. While growing up in a home where both parents worked long hours, she often was looked after by her grandmother who on an every day basis, would read a book a night to her until she fell asleep. This instilled a love for reading and marked the beginning of her lifelong hobby of writing. It is her hope that her writings will spark the imagination of children to pursue and share this love of reading, and hopefully help guide them to develop a firm foundation routed in a thirst for learning about themselves and the world around them. Ms. Morgan believes that people have a duty to try and take care of their planet and each other, and all of this starts with teaching the children these fundamental life principles.
