A young dove shares its wisdom with a pretty, young Nigerian girl.

Not all of life’s lessons are learned in the classroom; many are learned from wise creatures that live among us. In The Wise Dove, written by Abraham S. Akpan, a young Nigerian girl learns some valuable lessons about succeeding in life.

Mbet is a pretty, young Nigerian girl who picks up a dove named Ibiom, which instead of flying away frightened it will be harmed, befriends the girl. Through a bit of trickery, Ibiom shares its wisdom with Mbet. Ibiom tells her it is important to keep what she has and not cry over what she doesn’t have. The bird also tells her it is important to be alert at all times and not to let down her guard because she could easily be tricked.

This is a simple story full of wonderful lessons for young children. It teaches the importance of listening carefully in order to be successful in life and is easily understood by young children. More than that, it teaches all readers the value of the simple things in life.

This book also teaches readers to practice being wise in everyday living because it is only by thinking before doing things that one will have a chance to become rich and successful. After all, gaining wisdom is far more precious than any material riches in this world.

This book will be featured at the 2012 Public Library Association Book Exhibit in Pennsylvania Conventino Center, Philadelphia PA, on March 13-17, 2017.
