These cars are called supercars for a reason and, while I love driving them, I would always recommend that people who want to put the pedal to the metal in an Aston do so safely.

The Aston Martin. The choice of vehicle for legendary hero James Bond, this iconic supercar has inspired generations of grown men and women to sigh, dream and, occasionally, lose control of their senses. Last month Experience Mad, a leading provider of gift- and experience days, reported that their survey of Top Gear fans showed that the Aston Martin was the most popular choice of ‘dream car’. Now, as it emerges that the drivers of an Aston Martin Vantage and a BMW M3 were lucky to escape prison after racing – and crashing – in a London street at nearly 80mph, Experience Mad director Steve Clark advised first-time or occasional supercar drivers to consider their own safety and the safety of those around them.
“James Bond pulled off some incredible stunts in his Aston Martin, but the rest of us mere mortals should drive them with care,” said Steve. “Both the vehicles involved in this particular accident were hired, which means the men driving them weren’t necessarily experienced in handling them – and they were lucky not to be hurt. These cars are called supercars for a reason and, while I love driving them, I would always recommend that people who want to put the pedal to the metal in an Aston do so safely.”
Plenty of real-life heroes have made the iconic British brand their wheels of choice. Steve said: “The Aston Martin symbolises power and strength, which is why many of the world’s top sportsmen – including Rafa Nadal, Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, ex-Formula 1 driver Damon Hill and Chris Eubank – own them. David Beckham has two! When you factor in the James Bond stars – Pierce Brosnan and Denise Richards – and the Royals who are fans, it’s easy to see why driving an Aston Martin makes people feel invincible.”
For people whose bank balances aren’t quite big enough to buy such a luxury, Experience Mad have a whole range of reasonably priced driving activities to choose from. Every driver opting for an Aston Martin driving experience will receive a full safety and technical briefing and complete a lap or two with a safety instructor, before being let loose on the track with their newly honed racing skills.
“I can completely understand anyone who wants to forget the constraints of everyday driving,” said Steve. “I just urge them to do it safely – our great tracks in a range of locations will allow them to do just that.”
