Two Square Users Kickstart The Mogul, The First Square-centric iPad Stand

After two years of design and engineering, Bill Trammel and his business partner Trevor Orrick are launching a Kickstarter project for The Mogul, an iPad stand specifically designed for use with Square.

About two years ago, a Square user and product designer named Bill Trammel was helping his accountant get setup with Square. Everything was going smoothly until the accountant realized that clients would be paying on an iPad just laying on the front desk, which seemed too casual and unprofessional for a business environment.

So Mr. Trammel went in search of a quality iPad stand that could tilt back and forth during a Square transaction. Nothing he found filled the bill. Stands were too cheaply made, looked ugly, or just didn’t tilt as needed. There wasn’t a well-built point of sale stand for the iPad.

After two years of design and engineering, Bill Trammel and his business partner Trevor Orrick are launching a Kickstarter project for The Mogul, an iPad stand specifically designed for use with Square.

The Mogul is designed to bring the elegance and simplicity of the Square app into physical form. It’s built entirely from CNC-machined aircraft-grade aluminum to withstand the rigors of all-day use in business environments.

The upper enclosure holds the iPad securely out of reach of potential snatch-and-grabbers. The custom-designed hinge uses a light grease joint that is soft to the touch and provides an elegant floating finish to each tilt. The riser pays homage to the Golden Gate Bridge, an icon with both geographic and personal meaning to Jack Dorsey, Square’s leader. The base is machined from solid ¾” thick aluminum, and is fitted with low-profile rubber feet so it won’t slide around or fall off a counter.

For additional security, the stand can be locked with any standard cable lock through the riser. For permanent mounting, the stand can be bolt-mounted from the bottom up.

The Mogul will be manufactured at an FAA-certified machine shop out of Los Osos, CA.

Both Bill and Trevor are looking forward to solving the iPad register problem for the many faithful Square users who use an iPad as a point of sale.
