The award, that was announced at a press conference by Belgian motorcycles magazine Motor Wereld, comes from an international jury representing 25 motorcycle magazines. With its unique blend of comfort, performance and innovative technologies, it didn’t take much to convince motorcycle journalists that the BMW K1600 GT was the bike of 2011.
Journalists from these highly acclaimed motorcycle magazines were impressed with the powerful in-line 6-cylinder engine, the sophisticated technology and unusual light handling the bike has to offer. The K 1600 GT is an incomparable touring motorcycle due to its traction control, navigation system, adaptive headlights, and electronically controlled suspension with various modes that increase active riding safety. The K1600 provides the rider with a unique riding experience with agile chassis and light handling, according to the jury.
Three BMW models were ranked in the top five places, giving BMW Motorrad a very impressive name. Second place went to the Ducati Diavel, third was Aprilia Tuono, fourth was BMW K 1600 GTL and fifth was the BMW S 1000.
Stephen Pan, General Manager of New Century BMW Motorcycles says, “What attracts customers to the BMW K 1600 GT is the 6-cylinder in-line engine that provides perfect running smoothness, supreme output and torque. The combination of riding properties, long-distance suitability and light handling sets a new benchmark in the touring bike segment.”
