Chicago’s The John Marshall Law School Showcases Practice-Ready J.D. Students with National Campaign

The John Marshall Law School in Chicago launched a new campaign that highlights the stories of its well-prepared, practice-ready students in a national print, online media, video testimonial and outdoor advertising campaign. The law school recruitment program was featured on Chicago’s transit system (CTA) and in PreLaw Magazine.

The John Marshall Law School in Chicago launched a new campaign that highlights the stories of its well-prepared, practice-ready students in a national print, online media, video testimonial and outdoor advertising campaign. The law school recruitment program was featured on Chicago’s transit system (CTA) and in PreLaw Magazine.

The I'm Ready campaign showcases testimonials of eight John Marshall Law School students who, before graduation, have completed externships, participated in competitions, served in student organizations and taken advantage of John Marshall’s nationally recognized clinics and programs, all while maintaining outstanding academic records. The campaign demonstrates the law practice experience and skills training students at The John Marshall Law School receive, and how these skill sets go beyond the required classroom texts. Each story sums up a student’s unique experience in preparing to be practice-ready from day one and graduating with confidence to succeed in his or her law career.

“I’m Ready” features third-year law school students Svetlana Gittman, Gretchen Hafeman, Arturo Hernandez, Yanling “Sophie” Jiang, Florence Pittman-Hardy, Thomas Bacon, Lydia San and James O’Shea. These outstanding students exemplify the abilities John Marshall graduates take into the work world—and they’re only a small sample.

John Marshall students have access to programs that are ranked by U.S. News & World Report, including the Lawyering Skills Program, which is ranked sixth in the nation and remains one of the most rigorous research/writing programs among its peers. John Marshall’s Trial Advocacy Program is ranked 13th in the country. The Center for Advocacy and Dispute Resolution’s curriculum offers a J.D. certificate program and LL.M. degree in Trial Advocacy and Dispute Resolution for students who want to be courtroom-ready attorneys. John Marshall’s Intellectual Property Program is ranked 20th and is one of the oldest programs of its kind in the nation. The more than 30 specialized IP courses, make John Marshall’s curriculum one of the most extensive IP offerings.

Students participate in numerous national moot court and trial competitions each year. For example, in 2010 John Marshall students took first place at the National Moot Court Championship, and won first place honors for the third straight year at the Animal Law Advocacy Closing Argument Competition at Harvard Law School.

John Marshall involves students from client in-take to resolution of the issue through coursework offered by the Fair Housing Legal Clinic, Patent Law Clinic, the Veterans Legal Support Center & Clinic, the Pro Bono Program and the Business Transactions Externship Program. In each of these settings, students work closely with clients on real-life law cases. The practical experience offers John Marshall students a high degree of independence and a strong sense of professionalism.
