According to a November 2011 Gallup poll, 31 percent of Americans who finally lost weight after never succeeding named working out and exercising as the most effective strategies for dropping pounds -- a finding supported by two new case studies released by Henkin Fitness Systems, developer of the Ultimate Sandbag Training System.

Ultimate Sandbag training is based on three criteria: creating exercises that simultaneously improve flexibility, turning on muscles forgotten by most standard weight room exercises and re-training the “right” muscles to take stress off the rest of the body.

You have to realize that unless you get up, stand face-to-face with what’s in your way, wrestle it to the ground and overcome it, you will never truly experience what you’re capable of.

After shedding nearly 100 pounds and evading an inevitable date with diabetes, Gabriel Duff, an Ultimate Sandbag™ Training devotee, proved small changes in exercise routine and diet can have big benefits on waistlines.

Just a year ago, at 27, Duff’s weight reached 336 pounds, and he was desperate to regain his health. He bought fitness videos and exercise equipment, as well as changed his diet. But Duff became bored and frustrated with the new routine.

“I was down about 40 pounds but still not having great progress,” he remembered. “Then, by chance, I saw an ad for the Ultimate Sandbag on a fitness site and decided to look into it. It just seemed more interesting and versatile than traditional weights or workout equipment.”

Duff viewed the training as his moment to make a change, instead of waiting for the elusive “perfect” time to take action.

“You have to realize that unless you get up, stand face-to-face with what’s in your way, wrestle it to the ground and overcome it, you will never truly experience what you’re capable of,” he said.

Last November, Pedro Morales shared a similar situation with Duff. The combination of an unhealthy relationship, changing jobs, long hours studying and caring for his sick mom caused Morales’ weight to jump to 250 pounds.

“My moral was down, I was depressed, and my strength and condition was in the crapper,” Morales said. “I was spiritually and emotionally in a bad place – just a shell of the man I was.”

But the advantage Morales had was he enjoyed working out. Within three months of starting the Ultimate Warrior Fitness Program, an Ultimate Sandbag Training DVD series, he dropped 30 pounds. He also discovered ways to increase strength by lifting lighter loads, instead of focusing on heavy weights.

Morales’ transformation even led him to become Dynamic Variable Resistance Training™ certified.

“You have to believe in yourself and don’t wait for the ‘perfect’ time -- nothing will ever be more perfect than now,” he stressed.

Josh Henkin invented the Ultimate Sandbag Training System after physical therapy and traditional corrective exercises couldn’t relieve his lower back pain caused by training and competing as a Division I athlete. Using a homemade sandbag, he developed the original workouts after watching military friends go through physical therapy routines. To date, more than 300 exercises are possible with the Ultimate Sandbag. The system is currently used by professional athletes, military forces and weekend warriors in 70 countries.
