The Hottest New Testing At ATI Is Now Offered At Their York, PA Headquarters.

NFPA 285 fire test in progress

We heard our customers saying they needed NFPA 285 testing and we responded. Now we are one of only a few testing laboratories in North America capable of performing NFPA 285 testing.

Architectural Testing, Inc. (ATI) announces the hottest addition to their fire testing services, the ISMA (Intermediate Scale, Multistory Apparatus) chamber. This apparatus allows ATI to test to NFPA 285 - Standard Fire Test Method for Evaluation of Fire Propagation Characteristics of Exterior Non-Loading-Bearing Wall Assemblies Containing Combustible Components, as well as ASTM E 2307 - Standard Test Method for Determining Fire Resistance of Perimeter Fire Barrier Systems. This new offering expands ATI's existing, accredited fire testing services available at their corporate headquarters in York, PA.

One reason ATI cites for offering NFPA 285 fire testing relates to new regulatory requirements for energy conservation. "Building codes are always changing, and we strive to stay ahead of these changes for our clients," says Brady McNaughton, Program Manager – Fire at Architectural Testing. The 2012 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) requires higher energy performance from the exterior envelope. Architects and other specifiers are responding to these more stringent performance requirements by stipulating the use of combustible plastic insulation products in areas that they never used to before. In order to receive jurisdictional approval to use these combustible plastic products, the wall assembly must pass the flame propagation and temperature rise requirements of NFPA 285.

With the addition of NFPA 285 and ASTM E 2307 to their suite of services, ATI continues to demonstrate its commitment to addressing the unique needs of the building materials and construction industry. "We recognize that our clients need more than just one specific test for their products," says Richard Biscoe, Vice President of Architectural Testing. "That's why we are the complete solution for our clients, offering everything they need under one company banner. We heard our customers saying they needed NFPA 285 testing and we responded. Now we are one of only a few testing laboratories in North America capable of performing NFPA 285 testing." With testing services from acoustics to thermal to air, water, and structural to mock-up, along with its product listing, building code evaluation, test plans, engineering, forensics, and certification programs, ATI is the complete solution for a product’s or system’s compliance needs.

Architectural Testing, Inc. is a leading product testing laboratory in North America, with ISO/IEC 17025-accredited capability to perform more than 2000 defined test protocols at one or more of its twelve locations. Testing is available for building products and systems of all types, in the form of individual units and full-scale mock-ups, roofing materials and systems, concrete and masonry, insulation and construction materials, sealants, adhesives, and many others. Architectural Testing also offers certification services and engineering consulting services, including building envelope commissioning, and maintains qualified field testing crews that travel all over the continent to perform air/water testing on existing buildings and new construction.
