Difference Lab to take on the challenge of building rapid growth consumer applications outside Silicon Valley.

Serial entrepreneurs Dan Flanegan and Duncan McLaren have launched Difference Lab, a San Diego based tech startup that is building a new generation of consumer web and mobile applications. Their break out product is http://www.GetMeRated.com

“Its like Tumblr for social discovery” said Dan Flanegan, co-founder and product guy, adding “the unique twist is that users frame their photos in terms of a question, so when a user submits a photo and completes the question field, they create a ‘Photo-Question’. It is the ultimate icebreaker and a cure for online social anxiety as each photo that is posted includes a baked-in topic of conversation.”

Photo-Questions allow users to get feedback on their burning life questions and also connect over shared interests, whether that be Harry Potter, fashion, or relationships. GetMeRated is also a great place to meet new people from all over the world, there is something there for everyone. Difference Lab has opened the web version of the application for beta at http://www.getmerated.com

“We have experienced extraordinary growth with little or no promotion and we’re thrilled with the response so far”, said Duncan McLaren. “However, we have even higher expectations for our mobile apps. With more people expected to connect to the Internet by mobile device in 2013 than by traditional PC, it is where we have to be, it is the future of a connected world,” he added.
