Vicksburg, Mississippi (PRWEB) February 23, 2012
Mississippi State University and defense innovator Mav6 today announced that Dr. Henry L. Jones II will lead the recently-created Center for Battlefield Innovation, also known as “Battle Forge”, in Vicksburg, MS. Battle Forge is a collaboration between MSU and Mav6 and represents a unique capability for rapid-response product concept prototyping for the US Armed Forces. “We are excited about the opportunity to connect the leading researchers at Mississippi State University to the critical needs of the people protecting our nation’s security” said Dr. David Shaw, Vice President for Research and Economic Development at Mississippi State.
Dr. Jones will work with Major General Buford “Buff” Blount, US Army (Retired), co-founder and Chairman of Mav6, LLC, to leverage Battle Forge as an economic development engine for the State of Mississippi. Major General Blount was recently named as Chair of the newly forming Mississippi Defense Initiative (MDI). “Mississippians have shown their longstanding commitment to national defense, and resourcefulness in identifying new ways to secure the success and safety of our edgefighters. Dr. Jones will lead our efforts to tap into this pool of expertise” said General Blount, former commander of the US Army 3rd Infantry Division.
In conjunction with his Battle Forge duties, Dr. Jones will serve Mav6 as Chief Technology Officer, a role he has played in a number of successful high-technology companies in the defense, disaster response, finance, and energy industries. Dr. Jones is a sought-after author and speaker on technology, entrepreneurship, and product strategy. He is a graduate of Stanford University and the University of Mississippi.
Among the nation’s leading major research universities, Mississippi State has been designated by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as “a very high research activity university,” which represents the highest level of research activity for doctorate-granting universities in the U.S. Mississippi State is the only school in the state with the distinction, and one of only 108 nationwide. The Carnegie Foundation has also recognized Mississippi State with its Community Engagement Classification. In FY 2010, the university secured $201 million in external research funding. MSU is home to discipline-leading research centers and institutes that have been recognized nationally and internationally.
Mav6 was established in May 2007 by Major General Buford “Buff” Blount, USA (Retired), and Mr. Adam Jay Harrison to fill a need in the global defense and security market for rapidly conceived, concept-to-implementation technology solutions to emerging global security challenges. Inc. Magazine recently named Vicksburg, Mississippi-based Mav6 as the second fastest growing privately owned company in Mississippi.
