Twisted Pair Solutions Inc., a recognized leader in critical communication applications for secure, real-time collaboration anywhere, on any device, today announced enhanced support for NXDN Protocol, extending Kenwood NEXEDGE communication beyond traditional radio hardware boundaries to smartphones, PCs and tablets for a multi-function mobile and unified communications network.

NEXEDGE digital radio brand from Kenwood uses the NXDN Common Air Interface, which was developed in response to the need for greater spectrum efficiency. It was designed, in particular, for the business and industry market as a cost-effective communication method that achieves spectrum efficiency through digitization, while maintaining the basic architecture of analog FM radio. Twisted Pair’s native support for the NXDN interface means that WAVE customers may now incorporate a mix of legacy investments and new mobile devices with powerful NEXEDGE two-way radios, further supporting customer resourcefulness as it pertains to overhead costs and spectrum use.

“Our customers recognize that hardened radios - in many cases - serve specific needs; that said, they are hungry to accomplish more than push-to-talk through their communication network,” said Tom Guthrie, Twisted Pair’s President and CEO. “Our native support for NXDN Protocol and Kenwood NEXEDGE means that our customers have options to leverage devices of their choosing to create a rich, multi-function environment that incorporates voice, video and presence using radios and other mobile devices.”

With WAVE, NEXEDGE radio systems can be connected to other communication systems and networks, quickly and securely using IP as the common transport medium. This allows multiple radio systems to seamlessly connect and removes the geographic and frequency barriers that traditionally impact reach.

WAVE supports all NEXEDGE deployment modes and integrates the following data elements from NEXEDGE using standard PC hardware:

  • Group and Private Calls
  • Specific Unit ID display
  • Software Dispatch Console
  • Alarms (including “man down”)
  • System Presence
  • GPS
  • Text Messaging
  • End-to-End Encryption
  • Integration with Analog and IP PBX Systems
