Simple Ideas Labs announced today the launch of kanban2go, an open beta to-do list application for the collaborative marketplace. Unlike other software in the crowded to-do list genre, kanban2go uses visual design that works with the intuitive mind to enhance usability and functionality in a program that is effortless to use for organizing and managing tasks.
Entrepreneur Prabhakar Gopalan patterned kanban2go after the mind’s natural organizational process, carving to-do projects into three time buckets: past, present, and future. The result, Gopalan says, is the same quality of managed productivity that that Japanese auto makers apply in their factories using kanban boards -- the Japanese term for billboard.
“Billboards are memorable,” Gopalan said. “You pass by them driving to work, driving to dinner, and you remember them.
“I took that idea and decided to see if I could apply it as an alternative to the GTD (getting things done) method of task management, which is overly complex and often counter-productive,” he said.
“So I designed Kanban2go to take a primordial approach to task organization that works simply by utilizing only three categories: to-do, in progress, done.”
The result, he says, is an intuitive productivity tool that doesn’t allow the user to make it more complicated than it needs to be, like other task management apps. Designed to be collaborative with other users via email, Evernote, Google, iCal and Outlook Calendar, kanban2go works in realtime, updates on any browser, and comes with a surprising cache of nuanced features built in that belie its simple layout.
"Sharing and showing your to-dos with others is important in getting things done,” Gopalan says. “These aspects are built-in to kanban2go.
“When the user is limited to a small, orderly space within their to-do list software, it starts off and stays manageable.”
