A new focus at Saima Agency Public Relations will be on one-to-one consultations with authors addressing issues such as branding, website critiquing, as well as fine-tuning the needs for author services and support.

Authors, both newly-published and veteran best-selling, often feel overwhelmed by navigating what can sometimes feel like a maze created by the publishing industry’s marketing and publicity expectations for their books. But starting March 1, a new focus at Saima Agency Public Relations will be on one-to-one consultations with authors addressing issues such as branding, website critiquing, as well as fine-tuning the needs for author services and support.

“These days, authors need to wear so many hats in publishing. Even after they’ve written their books, they often find themselves promoting and marketing too,” says Saima Agency managing director Peter Fusco. “An in-house publicist has only so many hours in a day to not only market a new release, but to alleviate the author’s concerns. But novelists repeatedly tell us that they feel the Saima Agency is in their corner.”

Some of the novelists the Saima Agency works with are New York Times bestselling author Cathy Marie Buchanan; Globe and Mail #1 bestselling author Eva Stachniak; internationally bestselling historical fiction author Sandra Gulland; Kafka Prize award winner and Commonwealth Prize finalist Isla Morley; and longlisted for Canada’s prestigious 2011 Giller Prize, Genni Gunn. The agency coordinates publicity for nonfiction authors as well.

Remaining front and center in the agency’s offerings will be the book blog tours the company is known internationally for.

“Book bloggers are passionate readers who are eager to share their opinions,” says Saima Agency blog tour coordinator Diane Saarinen. “We’re proud of the quality of our relationships with the bloggers – and our authors. It’s very satisfying to be a liaison between the two, securing online reviews and other coverage.” She notes plans for webinars to instruct writers in do-it-yourself blog tours are also in the works for the busy agency.
