"She received a call from an employer three minutes after she had applied for the position on Job509.com. Two days later, she got the job! This is unheard of in Haiti.” - Cedric Brandt, CEO of Job509

Job509, a website that helps people find a job in Haiti, has established itself as the leader in the Human Resources industry in Haiti. Launched in May 2011, the young startup now has more than 20,000 resumes of Haitians or foreigners that are looking to work in Haiti. It has already helped more than 300 people find jobs in Haiti. At anytime, a job seeker can find an average of 25 or more jobs listed on the site.
Before the launch of Job509, the employment process in Haiti was cumbersome, opaque, and often relying on personal connections. If you did not know the right person in Haiti, it was very difficult to land the position you wanted. Companies often hired people they knew rather than the most qualified person. Without an efficient way to search for the right person outside of their own network, they did not have a choice.
Cedric Brandt is the CEO and co-founder of Job509. He explains: “Before Job509, people used to pay taxi drivers to drive them across Port-Au-Prince so that they could hand their resumes to companies. They rarely received a call and it was an expensive process. With Job509, they do not have to pay anything, they can create their resume online easily and start applying for jobs.” Mr. Brandt is proud that he is able to help people in Haiti find employment. “The other day, a woman posted on our Facebook wall. She was thanking us because she received a call from an employer three minutes after she had applied for the position on Job509.com. Two days later, she got the job! This is unheard of in Haiti.”
Job509 has also opened doors to Haitian talent living abroad allowing them to move back to their homeland. It used to be nearly impossible to land a job in Haiti while living abroad which made it much harder for the Haitian diaspora to move back home. With Job509, they can now find a job online and go back to Haiti with a job in hand. Markens Isidor is a Haitian chef who studied in Paris and worked in the USA for years at places such as the Verizon Center in Washington, DC and the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX. He is now working in Haiti: “Thanks to Job509, I was able to come back and live in my country. I am now the chef at the biggest beach resort in Haiti.”
Job509 keeps growing at a great pace. Their website receives thousands of views a day and they are establishing good relationships with companies in Haiti so that they can list more opportunities and help more Haitians find the job they want.
