Survitec Group's subsidiary Survitec Service & Distribution (SSD) has won a major contract with South West Water to supply, install, maintain and repair all of its loose lifting equipment. The five-year contract covers everything from slings and shackles right through to lifting gantries.

South West Water has been a SSD customer for many years. Part of Pennon Group plc, the utility company provides drinking water and waste water services throughout Cornwall and Devon and in small areas of Dorset and Somerset.

SSD won the business on the back of a highly competitive tender at the end of 2011 after South West Water had decided to procure all of its lifting requirements through a single supplier. With its expanding team of highly skilled engineers, SSD has become a market leader in lifting services with expertise covering general lifting gear, manual lifting machines, powered lifting machines and runways and light crane structures. SSD can also supply and install height safety equipment, fall arrest gear to and ladder safety systems.

SSD's engineers are all highly trained with many years’ experience in the industry. The company has embraced the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association's (LEEA) TEAM Card initiative and its lifting engineers carry the appropriate accreditation card.

Said Ian Day, SSD's Branch Manager in Plymouth: "We were thrilled to be awarded the contract because South West Water has been a valued customer for many years. I think they appreciate the wide range of skills and resources at our disposal and the fact that we can supply a complete package of lifting equipment and services. Geographically we are also well placed to service their business across different counties. The contract win is testament to the hard work of all members of staff at the branch."

Added Damian Hunt, South West Water’s Procurement Category Manager: "We have dealt with SSD for many years. We trust them to deliver a great added value service at a competitive price. By placing our lifting business with a single supplier, we expect to benefit from lower costs and improved operational efficiencies going forward. "

SSD is part of the global Survitec Group. It has provided onsite lifting services for many major UK companies including ABP, Airbus, Ineos and Vauxhall.
