The February JobsOutlook report from the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) has shown that employer confidence is remaining steady and that short-term recruitment prospects for agency staff is much stronger than a year ago.
The figures highlighted that the Agency Workers Regulations (AWR) have not hindered plans by employers to allow for increasing flexibility for their workers. The director of research for the REC, Roger Tweedy, said that despite the continuing uncertainty, the figures are giving cause for measured confidence.
“There are some positive signs with the majority of employers now planning to slightly increase their permanent workforce,” he said. “In addition, the outlook for agency staff hires now looks stronger than a year ago, despite new regulations coming into force.”
The JobsOutlook surveys are compiled from responses from around 600 employers, and examines their future recruitment intentions, as opposed to their actual placements. February’s figures have shown that around 65 per cent of employers were intending to take on permanent staff in the next three months – a rise of three points on the figure for the previous month.
They also showed that 82 per cent of the employers surveyed have plans to expand their temporary staff in the next three months, with that figure rising to 84 per cent for the next 12 months.
