The Institute for Financial Literacy, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization whose mission is to promote effective financial education and counseling, released today the schedule for the 2012 Annual Conference on Financial Education to be held April 18-20 at the Caribe Royale Hotel in Orlando, Fla. This year, more than 30 speakers from around the world will be on hand to address collaborative efforts in financial literacy education. Conference highlights include three education tracks, the 6th Annual Excellence in Financial Literacy Education (EIFLE) Awards, a keynote address by award-winning author and personal finance expert Laura D. Adams and dedicated networking opportunities for attendees. For a complete schedule of events, visit http://www.ACFEonline.org.
“The 2012 Annual Conference on Financial Education has been purpose-built for financial educators and counselors,” said Leslie E. Linfield, Executive Director and Founder of the Institute for Financial Literacy. “During these tough economic times, it is more important than ever that we equip our educators and counselors with real-world insight and information that they can take back and implement in the communities they serve.”
The Annual Conference on Financial Education was established by the Institute for Financial Literacy in 2006 to promote the effective delivery of consumer financial products, services and education by hosting a national event for professionals providing these services. In addition to being a valuable networking event for financial educators and counselors, the Conference serves as a showcase for financial education success stories, offering attendees proven strategies, tips and techniques to achieve intended outcomes, funding goals and program sustainability. This year’s Conference is expected to draw more than 250 attendees.
For the first time in its history, the Conference will consist of a General Session and Concurrent Sessions divided into three educational tracks, which will allow attendees the opportunity to customize their learning experience. The first track, “Investing in Our Future,” is aimed at equipping educators and counselors to help prepare children and teens for a life of financial well-being; the second, “Serving Those Who Serve,” is geared toward public servants and members of the armed forces; the third, “The Road to Financial Recovery,” will deal with assisting financially distressed adults.
Each day will begin with a General Session in the main hall, followed by three concurrent education tracks. In addition, the 6th Annual Excellence in Financial Literacy Education (EIFLE) Awards will be presented at a dinner on April 18, while new-media enthusiast, personal finance expert, education advocate and author Laura D. Adams, will deliver the keynote address at a luncheon on April 19.
During the three-day event, attendees will have extended opportunities to network with their peers and with organizations who will be onsite to exhibit their products and services. The Conference will conclude on Friday, April 20 at noon, giving attendees the opportunity to enjoy the Orlando area before returning home. For those who wish to stay the weekend, the Caribe Royale Hotel is extending the Conference’s discounted room rate to three days post event.
Linfield noted that because of the diverse speaker lineup, multiple education tracks and family-friendly location, interest in this year’s Conference is at an all time high. She also said that the generous support of its sponsors was crucial in making the Conference possible. Current sponsors include: Wells Fargo; Discover; E*TRADE; Experian; Ally Financial; The Financial Services Roundtable; Thrivent Financial for Lutherans; Ariel Investments and FLA Publishing.
