Andrew Hawley, from Vintage Rock Posters, is a dedicated buyer of original 1950's and 1960's rock ‘n’ roll concert posters is now searching for an original January 1969 Jimi Hendrix Experience concert poster designed by the world famous Gunther Kieser. According to Hawley, “Hendrix played six concerts during his 1969 German tour. He played at The Sporthalle in Cologne and The Jahrhunderthalle in Frankfurt. For this tour, Kieser designed one of the most famous Hendrix concert posters using a Medusa like image of Hendrix's head with snake like wires flowing from his hair. This iconic image is considered by many to be Kieser's most impressive work. Kieser is one of Germany's most prolific poster artist and his work can be seen worldwide in places like the Museum of Modern Art and other art institutions.”
Hawley adds, “ The Hendrix Kieser poster was large and was wheat pasted around bus stops, street sidewalks around the cities Hendrix was playing. The the same poster artwork and layout were used for all six concerts. Concert information was added on the bottom and would change depending upon what city Hendrix was playing. It is rumored a merchandise poster was printed up using the same image including a made-up date of 15 1 69 STUTGART. This merchandise poster was sold at the six shows. The concert posters used for advertising were much brighter in color and feature a date and a city at the bottom of the poster.”
Andrew Hawley is in search of any and all of the original Hendrix 1969 German concert posters produced by Gunther Kieser. Hawley is willing to pay $5,000 cash for each one! Also of interest are any Kieser Doors, Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin concert posters. Any condition would be accepted!
