...the oral contraceptives caused young woman to sustain serious and life-threatening injuries, including blood clots, pulmonary embolisms, deep vein thrombosis, heart attack, stroke and even sudden death...
Boston, MA (PRWEB) February 27, 2012
The National Defective Drug Law Firm Gilman Law LLP continues to investigate potential legal claims on behalf of the thousands of women who may have suffered life-threatening blood clots and other injuries after using the popular birth control pills, Yaz and Yasmin. Currently, PACER lists more than 10,000 lawsuits pending in the Yasmin and Yaz (Drospirenone) Marketing, Sales Practices and Products Liability Litigation in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois. All of the Yaz and Yasmin lawsuits pending in the federal litigation involve similar claims that the oral contraceptives caused young woman to sustain serious and life-threatening injuries, including blood clots, pulmonary embolisms, deep vein thrombosis, heart attack, stroke and even sudden death.
Time may be running out for other potential Yaz and Yasmin lawsuit plaintiffs to file legal claims in this litigation if they have not already done so. The first bellwether trial, or test case, in the Yaz and Yasmin litigation was supposed to begin on January 9, 2012. But in an order dated December 31, 2011, U.S. District Court Judge David Herndon, postponed that trial until further notice, and named a neutral third party, known as a special master, to oversee settlement discussions and mediations between the parties in the ligation. Attorneys for both plaintiffs and defendants were directed to meet with the special master “without delay” to negotiate in good faith. Judge Herndon's order indicated that he believes both sides in the multidistrict litigation would be best served by attempting to settle these cases rather than move forward with the first bellwether trial.

Yaz and Yasmin Safety Issues:
Yaz and Yasmin contain drospirenone, a synthetic form of the hormone progestin.
According to a study released by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on October 27, 2011, birth control pills that contain drospirenone increase the risk of blood clots by almost 74%, compared to other oral contraceptives that are made with an older form of progestin.
In December 2011, during a joint meeting of the FDA’s Reproductive Health Drugs Advisory Committee and its Drug Safety and Risk Management Advisory Committee, a majority of outside medical experts recommended that labels for Yaz, Yasmin and similar pills be updated with stronger warnings about their possible potential to cause serious, life threatening blood clots. According to The New York Times, the committee voted 15-11 that Yaz and Yasmin be allowed to remain on the market, despite the concerns over blood clots.
Gilman Law LLP is offering free, no obligation lawsuit consultations to victims of blood clots and other serious injuries that may be associated with the use of Yaz and Yasmin.
