There are many competitive products in the SIS marketplace, but none of the alternate providers can match Synergy’s student data management capabilities – our selection by OSIS reaffirms that yet again.

Edupoint™ Educational Systems, the nation’s leading student information system (SIS) solutions vendor to the national K-12 market, has been selected as the exclusive student information system provider by the Oregon Student Information System Consortium (OSIS).

“Obviously, we are thrilled to have our industry-leading Synergy™ SIS selected by OSIS,” said Robert Weathers, Edupoint Founder and CEO. “There are many competitive products in the SIS marketplace, but none of the alternate providers can match Synergy’s student data management capabilities – our selection by OSIS reaffirms that yet again.”

The Oregon Student Information System Consortium members represent nearly 400,000 students in Education Service Districts (ESD) and school districts – large and small – across the state. OSIS, led by a steering committee consisting of members from Salem-Keizer School District, Multnomah ESD, Northwest Regional ESD, Portland Public Schools and Eugene School District, worked with representatives from more than 70 school districts and ESDs, as well as the Oregon Department of Education.

After a national search and four-stage evaluation process, the Synergy™ Student Information System from Edupoint was unanimously selected. The process included evaluation teams that worked through the summer to narrow the field of eight SIS vendors to three finalists. Following extensive on-site technology demonstrations, the consortium believed the innovative, nationally proven solutions of the Synergy Education Platform best suited its members’ needs.

Overall, the collaborative selection process involved more than 350 support and school office staff and more than 950 instructional staff from districts and ESDs throughout Oregon.

“The evaluation process – and selection of Synergy – focused on many aspects of an SIS that are important for school districts,” said Kristen Duus, OSIS steering-committee member and IT Director of Salem-Keizer School District. “Aside from cost, we reviewed the ability of the vendor to consider various implementation models, and for their student information system to meet the needs of districts and ESDs of all sizes.

“We were originally open to awarding the contact to multiple vendors if needed, but Edupoint and their integrated Synergy SIS, gradebook and special education solutions met the vast majority of our needs and provided the best fit overall. Committee members also thought Edupoint’s ability to support instruction and standards-based learning was far superior to the other solutions reviewed.”

The Synergy™ Education Platform is a powerful student data management platform designed to support all K-12 stakeholders – teachers, administrators, students, parents and school-support staff. It consists of the Synergy Student Information System, a true-web SIS that delivers the industry’s richest feature-set and state reporting capabilities. It also leverages the Synergy TeacherVUE™ Gradebook, an intuitive gradebook that helps teachers efficiently track results and individualize learning with traditional or standards-based gradebook models.

Robust ParentVUE™ and StudentVUE™ web portals allow parents and students access to real-time information on assignments, grades, attendance and discipline, and Synergy™ Special Education provides a collaborative environment with customized workflow that generates and stores student IEPs, streamlines the special education process, and ensures compliance to meet state and federal regulations.

“One of the benefits of a single student information system is that it makes gathering data for state reporting more efficient,” said Rick Wahlstrom, steering committee member and Chief Information Officer of the Northwest Regional ESD, which serves 20 school districts in four counties. “State and federal reporting requirements are ever-increasing, and the Edupoint solution offers better access to existing data elements and improves the ability for districts to manage the collection of new elements. We look forward to working with our district partners to implement Synergy.”

The selection by OSIS is a watershed day for Edupoint that pays tribute to the technology – and the philosophy behind that technology, noted Weathers.

“Our growth reflects the maturation of our solutions into a powerful student data management platform for education and affirms the benefits of our collaborative product development process,” Weathers said. “This is a true milestone for our organization, and we look forward to having current – and future – OSIS member districts and ESDs join the Edupoint family.”
