Readers of Snow Business magazine get insider tips and advice from industry experts contributing to the trade publication for the Snow and Ice Management Association.

“SIMA is a great organization for the contracting community. I was a member of SIMA when I was a contractor, and now we are members as vendors to the industry.

Mike Rorie, CEO of GIS Dynamics, parent company to Go iLawn and Go iPave, accepted an invitation to contribute to Snow Business magazine this year as a guest columnist. Snow Business is the trade publication for the Snow and Ice Management Association (SIMA).

“SIMA is a great organization for the contracting community. I was a member of SIMA as a contractor, and now we are members as vendors to the industry,” said Mike Rorie, CEO of GIS Dynamics. “They really have captured the essence of being a one-stop resource for snow and ice contractors and contractors at large, which they share with the world in the form of Snow Business.”

The bi-monthly publication covers a variety of topics for the snow and ice management community including sales and marketing techniques, business management tips, and snow and ice management best practices. Other column contributors include Certified Snow Professionals (CSP’s), business consultants and SIMA board and staff members.

"I am delighted that Mike Rorie is sharing his expertise with our readers this year. He is very well-respected for his accomplishments in the industry, and I'm confident that his wisdom will be very beneficial to snow & ice management professionals who work hard every day to build and strengthen their businesses," said Cheryl Higley, editorial director of Snow Business magazine.

Rorie’s first contribution to the magazine, “Building with Benchmarking” was for the January/February 2012 issue. He offered insight to business owners on the importance of measuring all aspects of a contracting business.

“Benchmarking was a really important part of my contracting business,” Rorie said. “I wouldn’t have been able to take GroundMasters to the next level if I was not benchmarking every chance I could.”

Rorie created a Benchmarking Checklist to complement the article that readers can download for free at on the web.

“I tried to offer a few suggestions as to how someone can begin the benchmarking process for their organization, but the benchmarking checklist will hopefully give the readers a jumping off point,” Rorie said.
