Dr. Elizabeth Crawford, Director of Educational Research and Design for Lexia Learning will join renowned educational consultant Dr. Anita Archer as a featured presenter on the opening day of the CORE Leadership Summit 2012, March 1-2 at the Hyatt Regency, San Francisco Airport, Burlingame, Calif.

As prominent reading experts, Drs. Crawford and Archer will lead the Elementary Literacy track at the conference, which is attended by district leaders from across the country. Dr. Crawford’s program, titled “Demystifying Assessment: Making Concrete Connections Between Data and Effective Instruction,” will review various types of assessments and provide practical examples of how educators can use data to influence greater differentiated instruction. Dr. Archer’s session, “Explicit Instruction and the Components of Reading: Prevention and Intervention,” will illustrate the major elements of Explicit Instruction as applied to teaching of essential reading components in Tiers I, II, and III.

“As a former teacher and speech-language pathologist, I experienced firsthand how challenging it is to interpret data to inform instruction,” said Crawford. “I’m passionate about working with educators on making the connection between data and instruction, and I’m honored to present this session with Anita, someone who’s been a great teacher and role model to me.”

A researcher, educator and nationally recognized expert on Response to Intervention, Dr. Crawford was formerly the Director of Interventions at the Florida Center for Reading Research, one of the most respected authorities on reading education in the United States. She has presented to thousands of educators across the country, including sessions at the ASCD national conference, the West Virginia Reading Association Conference, and the Minnesota Elementary School Principals Association annual conference. Dr. Crawford leads the instructional design of Lexia Reading®, a technology-based reading program, and is the principal architect of Lexia’s unique Assessment Without Testing™ technology.

Dr. Archer’s storied career includes being the recipient of 10 awards honoring her excellence in teaching and contributions to the field of education. Dr. Archer has served on the faculties of San Diego State University, the University of Washington in Seattle, and the University of Oregon in Eugene. She is nationally known for her professional development activities.
