Experts to Highlight Web Design Strategies and Testing Recommendations

Web accessibility experts Ken Nakata and Jeff Singleton will address evolving Web strategies at California State University’s 27th Annual International Technology and Persons with Disabilities Conference. Nakata and Singleton, both of HiSoftware Inc., a provider of content-aware compliance and security solutions, will offer sessions on Web design and accessibility testing at the CSUN conference held February 27 – March 3, 2012 in San Diego.

Web accessibility is not something that can be tacked on at the end of Web design; it must be addressed throughout the development process. On Wednesday, February 29, Ken Nakata, Director of the Accessibility Consulting Practice at HiSoftware, addresses the need for integration of Web accessibility throughout the development lifecyle in, “Proactively Designing for Web Accessibility.” The session encourages the audience to integrate accessibility concepts into designer training, wireframe and site design, copy and graphics.

These days, few websites remain static after they are created. They are updated and revised, often on a daily basis, and as a best practice sites should be routinely monitored and tested to maintain accessibility. On Friday, March 2, Jeff Singleton, Senior Accessibility Test Manager at HiSoftware, offers an interactive demonstration of different monitoring and validation strategies in “Testing for Accessibility – What to Know.” The session will highlight the pitfalls and challenges of single-strategy testing, demonstrate how to test with various Assistive Technologies and discuss the benefits offered by automated testing tools.

For 26 years the Center on Disabilities, through the International Conference on Assistive Technology and Persons with Disabilities, has provided an inclusive setting for researchers, practitioners, exhibitors, end users, speakers and other participants to share knowledge and best practices in the field of assistive technology. Known as a forum that showcases cutting edge technology and practical solutions that can be utilized to remove the barriers that prevent the full participation of persons with disabilities in educational, workplace and social settings, the conference is the largest of its kind in the world.
