Trumpia allows us to provide this critical service, which helps homeless, abused and drug dependent teens take the first step in setting a new course for their lives.
Anaheim, Calif. (PRWEB) February 29, 2012
Trumpia, the leading solution provider for Multi-Channel Marketing and Messaging, offering mobile text, email, voice broadcast, IM and social media in a single integrated platform, today announced that The Teen Project is using Trumpia in conjunction with a sophisticated programming algorithm to automatically identify shelters, sober homes and services for homeless and abused teens across America.
The Teen Project’s System, TEXT Shelter Service, is connected with 17,000 shelters nationwide. As a result, when teens text-in the keyword SHELTER along with their zip code to The Teen Project’s Trumpia short code, 99000, they are immediately sent the address of a local shelter within a 30 mile radius. Teens are able to text SOBER or ABUSED to 99000 if they are in an abusive living situation or battling a drug problem. The Teen Project uses the power of SMS messaging to help these teens quickly access the support they need.
According to founder Lauri Burns, The Teen Project reviewed five competitive solutions before selecting Trumpia to be its mobile text messaging provider. Trumpia offered the most affordable solution and best fit the needs of The Teen Project, which aimed to help as many teens as possible across the country. Unlike other services of its kind, which are expensive to support and thus cover no more than 2000 shelters, The Teen Project provides access to thousands more.
“Most kids who are living on the street do not know where to turn to find the help they need – but they still have a cell phone,” said Lauri Burns. “For them, a simple SMS text can mean the difference between life on the street and finding a temporary, but supportive home. Trumpia allows us to provide this critical service, which helps homeless, abused and drug dependent teens take the first step in setting a new course for their lives.”
“We are thrilled to help The Teen Project impact the lives of countless young people,” said Ken Rhie, co-founder and CEO of Trumpia. “The Teen Project is a great example of the power of mobile text – especially when it is integrated with other digital technologies. At Trumpia, we believe that the possibilities are endless and, with that said, we are committed to helping organizations leverage mobile and multi-channel messaging technologies to achieve their goals – no matter how great the scope.”
More About The Teen Project’s Services
In addition to directing teens to different shelters across the country, The Teen Project owns and operates two Southern California based shelters of its own – one in Santa Ana and another in Venice. The Teen Project also provides additional guidance like assistance with high school and college admissions, job internships and access to social services.
Funded by institutions such as In-N-Out, State Street, Wells Fargo and The California Wellness Foundations, The Teen Project is in the process of raising additional funds to launch a nationwide billboard campaign to advertise its mobile keywords and short codes. The organization’s future plans also include an online rating system in which teens can participate. They will also be able to use this to learn more about the different shelters and services in their area.
Teen Project founder, Lauri Burns, recently won a Los Angeles Business Journal 2011 Women Making a Difference award. The organization has also garnered support from celebrities such as actor Bruce Willis as well as national and local media.
About The Teen Project
The Teen Project is an organization with one full time employee and a team of over 60 committed volunteers that regularly work with the organization to provide support and services for our youth.
The number of homeless emancipated foster youth in the United States is a growing epidemic. To address this problem, The Teen Project has many components -- Sober College Housing, The PAD Database, Teen Project Shelter Collaboration, The Meeting Places Program, The TEXT Shelter service and the National Mentoring Program. The Teen Project protocol seeks to address the issue on all levels. There are 25,000 teens exiting the system each year to homelessness. Foster care services end abruptly at age 18 and these kids are forced to leave the only home they know. In most cases they leave foster care with little or no sustainable life-plan and without the ability to reenter care. Anyone being put on the street without money, shelter or a job would have a rough time. But because of their age and mental state, these kids lack the knowledge that is necessary to rebound from this tragedy. The Teen Project picks up where the laws fall short - giving these kids a chance at life. We are a parent to the parentless, bringing them home.
